At The Park
By Chris Gin
April 8th, 2009
I took this while waiting for the Sun to set behind me. The sunset turned out to be pretty average, but I quite like the lighting in this. I used HDR to bring out the tones.

Your restrained use of HDR hits the right balance of color saturation and brings out the best in this composition. Keep the pics of kiwi countryside coming - thanks.

those things on the other side of the fence like giant pumpkins I`m not sure about those ? but the rest is nice I really like the sheep.

Those "things" are hay bundle wrapped in plastic, so they won't heat up to much. Great picture! This is my new background :)

Very nice Chris. Excellent work. Hope you got more shots of that tree. What a cool subject to shoot.

Chris, another perfect ten. For those asking what camera he uses--that's an important question to be sure. However, I think most import element here is the photographer himself. What a rich and interesting combination of elements. As for the hay bundles, I would not ask Chris to remove them. For all we know he may have placed them there himself. Way to go!!

I agree. Great shot and awesome use of HDR. I enjoy all of you work on here. I don't believe the hay bales take away from it at all. Round bales weigh like a ton a piece anyway so moving them would be a task.

I rather think that the line of hay bundles acts as a datum of focus, enhancing the perspectival sense of the image and deepening the space for me. With a flimsy fence serving that purpose, the image would flatten severely.
Holy Tree, Batman! I love it all.

Thanks guys. Yeah I would've preferred the hay bales to have been uncovered, but that wasn't the case. @teknak, I use a Canon 40D but stubulman is right, the camera doesn't matter. A lot of my shots were done on a 350D.

Wierd, I've learned to recognise your photos by sight, before I even looked at the author tag. Excellent as usual!

I saw the thumbnail and thought the blue things were a river.
I got the enlarged form, and it's absolutely beautiful, but I have to say: the blue plastic things ruined it for me. :(

Dang Chris, this one is fantastic! I actually like those hay bales -- at first I thought they were bizarre waterfall fountains (kind of looks like it, eh?). Really great stuff here, anyway. This photo has just about everything I could want in a desktop and more. Favorited!

This picture has a really nice balance to it, calming on the left with my eye following up the trail but also keeping my interest on the right hand side with the fields. Good use of HDR brings out the best in this I feel :)

brizkit: lol I started to see them as bizare water fountains too! Anyway; Chris, I'm with everyone else here regarding the positive feedback: this is absolutely fantastic. And just like Lord_Illidan, I am beginning to be able to recognize your work by just looking at it! Now, I'm not sure, but I think this one might be my favorite one you've submitted so far, and I'm really glad you submitted it. It's a real pleasure to look at.

lol I was wondering the same thing. I was actually assuming that it's the Washington Monument, but I don't know where Chris lives.

It's One Tree Hill in New Zealand, you know, the one from the U2 song? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Tree_Hill,_New_Zealand

@woodzy1234, actually all my photos have been taken in my home city of Auckland. I have a short trip to the South Island next month so I hope to get some nice shots down there too.

I absolutely love this. But the wrapped packages just ruin it for me. :-( Something synthetic in a natural environment.
