it's ok, but this is the kind of shot that anyone would be able to take standing in that same spot. there's nothing unique, artistic or otherwise special about it. the view is breathtaking, just not the picture.

plus it looks like a really cheap lens, probably the one they give out in the combo set with the camera?

Really nice capture here. Kind of like gcarter is saying I really feel like being there looking at this photo long enough. It keeps my attention and the view is amazing.

Nice shot. Unnecessary criticism I feel Burn Baby Burn, could you have done any better?

Have to say that for the first time I agree with Burn. While I have all three of your previous submissions, Wladimir, this one isn't up to their quality. Great subject, but the little things detract from this one.

Burn Baby Burn 2.1 Beta, i don't know why you keep looking to IFL if every time you don't like his wallpapers..you criticize everything, photos and all other kinds of work IFL submits..I really don't understand you..anyway I like the colors of this photo, but I think it's a bit trivial, not so particular..
about 14 years, 5 months ago
@WillLeech: im not saying i would have done better. i'm saying i would have done same. and so would everyone else standing on that hill.

@lerch84: some of the best photos i've seen in my life came from this website. it just happens so that lately the selection is rather mediocre at best. don't shoot the messenger.

@InterfaceLIFT: you know what would spruce up this site? making it less dependent on the taste and mood of one man. sure, keep your elitist a pic per day system, but let the registered users upload their own wallpapers in their account. so that when i click on their nick i get not only the pictures that were approved, but also the ones that weren't. I just feel like i'm really missing out on a lot of good stuff.

@Burn Baby Burn: I'd agree, but I'm however not standing on that hill and am unable to capture it myself. I consider wladimir has done me a favour and given me a photo/wallpaper I would not originally have. Be grateful for it.

Thx for all the comments.

@Burn Baby Burn 2.1 Beta:

If you check the EXIF you'll see that I took that shot with the Canon EOS 450D using the EF-S 17-85mm IS USM lens. Body and lens are high quality products in my opinion. Furthermore I used my B&W polorizer witch is acutually one of the best filters available. So don't call that cheap...

I agree with you that the quality of this picture is not the best. I recently have problems with the AF. That's why the picture is a little unsharp.

But I think you still miss the sens of critic. If you criticize my work you should tell me what is bad and what I could have done to make it better. Just saying that the picture is boring or bad doesn't help anyone. This is actually getting on my nerves...

You said anyone could do the picture and you're right. Anyone could do it and anyone could do it even better than I. I never said that I do professional work... And know that IFL doesn't decide what is a GOOD work or a BAD work. Everybody decides on his own. IFL only decides witch work they will publish.

@wladimir: i don't think my criticism is any less legitimate just because i didn't tell you what you should have done better. it may be a little less constructive, but it's just as valid. plus if i knew it, you'd be looking at my photos, and not my comments :)

like i sad there's nothing particularly wrong with your photo. if i saw it in a travel agency catalogue - and that's really where it should be - i'd wanna go there. that should make you feel good.

Burn Baby Burn... your criticism of each and every submission here is getting boring and tiring at best. Why don't you upload your work either here or elsewhere so people can have a shot at you?
I have most of my photos uploaded elsewhere because try as I may many times, I just couldn't get IFL to post them. So, I quit submitting them as I was also becoming leery of what might be happening to those submissions. But your constant neg. criticism will result in IFL to take off the comment section again. Might not be a bad thing as for what I have read here the last few submission.
about 14 years, 5 months ago
@mfaccone: i bet if you took a quick opinion poll you'd find out that, the absolute vast majority of people on here would prefer my boring criticism over your pathetic, heart broken, whining cries about your submissions being ignored. your pictures clearly suck, get over it.

but i am intrigued by your conspiracy theory as to what might be happening to your artwork. hmm...maybe IFL is selling it to rich private arab collectors and not telling your about it. that mightexplain why it hasn't been posted.

Burn... nobody is whining. Actually, I'm glad you don't get the chance to download anything I have done. As for whether or not they suck... I guess that would have to be an opinion from someone that actually SAW my photo work. I don't have any conspiracy theories either. You seem to read negs into my words just as you read negs into all the submissions here.

Burn, come on man. Please stop this stuff. As much trouble as the guys at IFL go through, they deserve us commentators at least behaving. And I'm not referring to your negative criticism - as I agreed with your first comment. Rather I speak of the last one. It doesn't do anybody any favors, including yourself you know.

@trout: wrong tree. im not the one who started with the personal insults. but anyway, maybe im just frustrated. what happened to pictures like these?

Oh I'm certain it's not only you or that you started it. I hear you there. I just think it might be better for the site and all of us really, if everyone quit the personal attacks - even when provoked. Keep firing the criticism though, certainly.

@Exoxu: Cala Formentor is located in the very North-West of Mallorca Island (Spain). The next city (town) is Pollenca (39°52'38.01"N and 3° 0'59.00"E). Piedra is the name of the village (39°55'41.13"N and 3° 7'58.74"E) next to the beach. The coordinates at witch I took the picture are as far as I remember 39°55'43.96"N and 3° 7'5.21"E. You can check it with google earth...

Getting closer to the ground for a shot and encompassing MORE of yellow flowers and yellow grass shifting your camera to the right about 10 degrees would have produced splendid work of art. The brighter the picture the generally better wallpaper would be--light tend to bring out the warmth of the colors of rocks and plants which we tend to miss on hazy days but rediscover when someone captures them with a skillful camera shot. A panorama without closeup details of something nearby is only half way there.
