The Green Hills of Home

June 13th, 2009

There's something about a deep blue sky and lush green grass that's appealing.

It's a nice photograph, but the darkness to the left is a bit off-putting for me.

Wow, great shot! I really enjoy scenes like this. Can't believe the clarity of that fence.

I wish sometime in my life I'd be able to visit all of these beautiful places that you, the photographers get to experience and photograph. This picture is truly amazing, it looks like a place I'd run to escape to. Beautiful, calm, and definitely one of a kind. This picture shows how beautiful our planet is because if you live in the city, then you haven't seen nothing! Good job, and thank you so much for submitting this. Keep submitting because I enjoy your work a lot.

It's dark on the left and right due to a vignette added in post-processing. I don't believe that it's detracting from the photo.
And for anyone wanting a similar experience, Knaim2, then Tiers View Bed and Breakfast (www.tiersview.com.au) is the place to go!

Nice photo. I also like your user name. Are you a biochemist, by any chance?

There's something about a monstrous vignette that's unappealing. I don't understand why people are butchering photos with post-effects.

haha Ah XHTZK, if you'd like I'll upload a non-vignette'd version for you elsewhere. To be honest I'm not a huge fan of doing a lot of post-production - I am very aware it can often detract from the photo, however, between the "normal" version of this image, and this one, I personally find the vignette adds a certain "dimension". Especially when used as a wallpaper.

Thank you for your comments, all.

How good can a photograph be? All common ingredients adding up to an exceptional piece of work.

I love the vignette personally and always will in applications like this. But maybe people are being off-put by the amount of fall-off you gave it. Maybe giving it a little less and dropping it sharper, so the effect is a tad bit more extreme towards the edges but doesn't continue as far as it does. Awesome photograph regardless!

That's something I shall try, than you Aberration2!

I really like the composition of the wallpaper, how the ground gently slopes downwards into the distance to give you a beautiful view of the landscape. The only thing that puts me off from using it is the somewhat dark atmosphere it brings. The tinge of darkness along with the massive clouds brings a sense of foreboding something bad is going to happen.

I heartily recommend you should take another picture of the exact same location but on a nice sunny day. A luscious green landscape with a crisp blue sky will really bring out its great qualities that'll make this wallpaper one of the best.
