Wallpaper Details: The Opal Lake
The Opal Lake
By Dominic Kamp
August 27th, 2009
Since Barack Obama and his family visited Yellowstone National Park as well, there was just a little too much Secret Service for me and my camera. ;-) So, I decided to continue my photo safari trip to Banff National Park, where I encountered this beautiful, emerald colored lake. Technique: HDRI made using 3 of the 7 exposures (Smart object method) and then processed in PS with Nik Color Efex and curves.

I don't know why, but the sunburst looks as if it's emanating from a light source perhaps three kilometers above the lake. The picture looks like a composite.
Harsh words, I know, for the master, but I am compelled to call them as I see them. Great subject matter as always, however.

Beautiful. I rotate my desktops often with the new ones posted on this site, but I think this one will stay for quite some time.

Colors are amazing, but there's an overall blurryness that I don't like. Perhaps it's because the 3 expositions were too far apart.

Not getting all the love for this one. Far too much post processing destroys what should be a glorious image.
Some of his other work is much better.

Nice photo ... however, unless my monitor and yours are calibrated differently that is a sapphire(blue) coloured lake not emerald(green).

As soon as I saw this, my jaw just hit the floor. What a beautiful creation! I can't wait for Windows 7's Desktop SlideShow to show this to me. This one became my 229th wallpaper. :)

I don't think the sky is blurry, but maybe you oversaturated the colours and in my opinion the light of the sun is too strong and almost hurts my eyes..anyway on the whole I like it :)

Thanks for all your comments and critics. I have to admit, it's a bit overprocessed! Well, you live and learn. ;-)

Amazing. I saw it in the Loupe and voted a while ago. It was too amazing to pass up. It might seem over-processed to you, but it looks amazing to me. :D

The sky and clouds ruin for me what would otherwise have been a superb photo. Too much Nik, perhaps. Also, I don't care for the vignetting. I don't know if the effect was intentional, but if it wasn't, it could be corrected in Lightroom.
