photographer AND poet - impressive. :P

beautiful shot - you took something that usually looks eerie (the mist) and made it look quite majestic.

I don't think this is a photograph.

Sadly you seem to be right about that. When I saw the thumbnail I was short of air for a while though. Still, this is very nice.

Awesome background for my work PC. Typo spotted in the lovely poem thingy though ;-)

Nice work... not a picture but nice. One thing that disturbs me about the image is the lack of perspective on the height of the trees from foreground to background. The size of the trees in the foreground is about equal to that of the farthest tree in the picture. You might want to work that into your next artwork... those trees in the back should be much smaller in height and definition as compared to those in the front. Good work though... very pleasing.

Great desktop. Thanks for the submission.

Maybe my eye is failing me but this looks to be a picture. If it was created in PS, it is an amazing job.

I love the serenity atmosphere of this...work. Is it or is it not a photograph ? Anyway, if it's not, thanks twice, because it looks very real to me! Nice job

Sadly I think this image lacks depth. Moreover, and others may corroborate this or not, I think the frontmost fog bank exhibits some banding. By contrast, please take a peek at

which is one of my favorites. @Macindows, I hope this doesn't mean I'm no longer invited for beer and pretzels.

I can't believe anyone saw this and thought it was a photograph ! Even as a 2d graphic is looks pretty amateurish.
Sorry Macindows, you do have some fine stuff but this one should not be here.

Uh, I'm pretty positive this is a real photo of Black Forest, Germany.

Im with ya smdude. I believe it to be a real photo as well. I may be wrong but hopefully the artist will get on here and clear this up.

Thanks for all your comments! This picture has indeed been created in Photoshop, apart from the background. Sorry, if the mist hasn't become as realistic as some of you wished (Including me). But after hours of trying different techniques, this is as close as I could get. I think, with regard to the comments for this and the submission before, I will focus more on pure photography than on hybrids. Thanks anyways! ;-)

P.S. Where's that typo??

This is terrific, regardless of it being a creation instead of an actual photograph. There are beer and pretzels available? All this time I thought we were all starving artists!

Your poem is a nice addition to the piece. Only, and ONLY since you asked, "now" should be "know." There is a simple irony to the general confusion about the authenticity of this "photograph" that you accidentally switched "now" and "know." Anyone else see that? :P

I wonder if monitor size isn't effecting the appearance of this one. On my 1280x800 MacBook I couldn't tell as easily, if at all. But on my larger desktop screen it is obvious that it's a created image. Now, that being said, while I don't typically like fake stuff, this is still fantastic. I can see the banding others have referred to, but as it isn't extremely noticeable it doesn't ruin the shot for me.

I think just the fact that you got people arguing about if it's real or not is a testament to your good work. I think that the foreground is great, but as it fades into the distance it gets obvious that it is not real... everything is too clear, it's not muddled or faded enough by the misty air. Same with the clouds... too sharp.

For me, it's the keywords that give it away. For example, this is one of the keywords: "digital composition".

I don't really care how the pixels made their way to my desktop. This is a great backdrop to usher in the fall (for us in the northern hemisphere at least).

I first thought that this was a painting. A very good job.
