Fantastic/epic photo and amazing it's so sharp compared to how fast they are going. I saved the picture to my computer and enhanced it though and I think I made it look better. I'll send you the link so you can see for yourself.

Very nice, on my desktop now.
Can i ask what the weird looking shadows are along with the mspaint like trails from the wings?

The white lines are surely wingtip vapour trails? Pretty standard when an aircraft is pulling a few G in humid conditions... They are obviously catching light and reflecting/refracting it to the sensor in a way that makes them look like light trails.
The shadows would appear to be cast by the smoke trails themselves. If you look closely and think a bit the sun is low to the right of the frame.
Excellent shot Alex, nice and sharp and well captured

Yeah i kinda guessed it would be the smoke trail shadows, but the vapour lines just look too defined. Sometimes things like that look so surreal it almost looks fake on the picture.

Hi all, well what a surprise! Thought I would just logon and have a look, had no idea there had been so many comments. Thanks for all of your comments, it has turned out to be one of my favourite shots. The shadows are pretty mad, really not sure how that has happened, it has confused a lot of people. They are basically coming down from a loop and entering a thin veil of their own smoke from a previous run which is how all those mad shaadows has been cast. Yep, the vapour trails are fantastic and make the picture extra special - all elements coming together I guess but I remember my jaw dropping as I was taking the shots!! Regards

Just excellent, all the way around. A great deal of luck was involved in getting this image, but luck + skill = extraordinary. A keeper.
