Desktop size is just way too bright for me, hurts my eyes enough to where I can't even focus on what the picture is after a short time. The smaller thumb size is much more pleasant to view and actually looks crisper to me.

I agree with Mercyflush64..on my desktop too is too bright..i can't look at it more than 5 seconds :|

It's certainly unusual. I quite like the image but as several others have commented, it's a bit too bright for wallpaper.
One question I have though. How do you create all the different sized images? Obviously start with the big one but do you use automated software to size/scale the different aspect ratios and resolutions or is it a fairly manual PhotoShop procedure?

yes its a sparkler ! i used a very wide aperture so the DoF was very small hence some bits are in focus and some not. then used ps to change the tint from orange to this more pleasing purple...
you could always turn down the brightness on your monitors...? lol @sprogs you just upload the biggest res and interfacelift do all the sizes for you !
