Rain and Rainbow

November 26th, 2009

Well, I decided not to watch the Sun set across the sea. Instead drove back across country and was lucky enough to have this rain cloud come over!

Ah ha, you sure do like rainbows!
Thank you all, very much, for voting. For those running Win7/Vista - the yellow field sure brightens up the taskbar!

And of course, check out my recent colourful submissions.

Haha..great! it is the first time i see that the first comment is by the same author of the submission! anyway the subject is wonderful but on my screen i see too much noise on the left side of the shot, in particular on the blue part..is that a problem of my screen?

haha Hello, acidphosphatase. I really enjoyed this posting. The yellow on the plantation is exponential. You have some other very good in the Loupe, but is a tip from me, do not change much the rainbow, as I think that happened in 'Brightbow'. Anyway buddy, admirable!

lerch84 I think it's a storm coming on that side.

Much love to all!

Lovely composition and colours... I love the yellow contrasting with the blue of the sky, but I have a major problem; there is a ton of noise correction in there and the whole sky looks low-quality and has lost a lot of detail that I like to see in clouds.

Wow, this shot had tons of potential. I saw the thumbnail and thought, "this is my next wallpaper." After downloading though, I'm afraid I won't be using it. The sky is too soft from excessive noise correction or smoothing and simply looks out of focus. There is quite noticeable banding around the dark cloud to the middle center of the image. Also, the yellow field is blown out so much that almost no detail is visible. I really wanted to like this one.

Ladies and gentleman I have re-submitted an updated version. I did have problems with this - there is a fine-line between too much noise/grain and too little detail, especially when it comes to desktop wallpaper.
I feel like I have let you all down, my apologies. In the meantime, you can see/download it here www.borntoclone.com/02094_rainandrainbow_2560x1600_v2.jpg

Regarding blown-out colours, this, I fear is an issue of monitors and colour profiles and calibrations and whathaveyou. It does look 'normal' on the main monitor I use (Dell u2410) and more intense on another (Samsung 205BW). The next issue is with web browsers and the desktop that aren't colour managed! It's such a hideous process. The same image, even with the basic sRGB colour-space can look so different.

Thank you

Funny because I struggled with "Stormy Skies" too. I think dark clouds are not my forte, at least not currently anyway! Be assured my other submissions are quite beautiful.

Well this one isn't my favorite, but i was looking at your loupe submissions and i must say they're very impressive! Guys, can we vote for some of his shots? :P

@acidphosphatase: do you have a website where you upload all of your shots? i would love to download some of those ones that didn't make it to the front page.

Hi NateFox,
Well, I do have my own website but I have yet to create any sort of photo gallery. I only upload general photos currently to skydrive, and these are of limited size (access via borntoclone.com). Though, I prefer to submit here 'cus it boosts my ego if they get published.

I like the rainbow photo in your Loupe more than this one. The one where only a small part of the rainbow is showing. I think at the same location, same rainbow.

Dude, you have some amazing photos in the Loupe!

This picture is ok but most of the space is taken up by the big gray cloud which is takes attention away from the rainbow and the golden field.

Blah. IFL should really consider having it so that you can download any of an uploader's images at their native res from the person's profile page. That way they could still feature stuff on the front page that gets voted for in the loupe but you can also download other walls if you want. And they wouldn't show up anywhere else in the site except in the person's profile page. It would be like having your own collection of photos that people can download, but only some if any get featured. I think that would be ideal.

Because honestly, there are so many incredible shots that don't get featured that are ever so tantalizing.
