Dawn Departure
November 30th, 2009
This High Dynamic Range (HDR) photo was taken in the early morning hours at Calgary International Airport (YYC). Our flight was going to Toronto. While waiting for the crew to get ready, the sky was giving us a nice show, which reflected in the aircraft's body.
Canon 40D with 17-85mm lens. HDR in Photomatix, minor level and saturation applied in Adobe Photoshop.

Beautiful shot. The placement of everything is just perfect, it makes for an interesting arrangement that works REALLY well, and sky is just magnificent. Very nice. Better as a piece of photography than a wallpaper, if you ask me, but nonetheless excellent. Nice job.

There are so many amazing pictures in the Loupe. I ask myself what's wron with IFL - why aren't they posted?
Well, finally I see one.

This photo is stunning! I'm curious, how does this photo have absolutely no noise! It doesn't matte what conditions I shoot in, my Nikon D70s will have noise and artifacts scattered around the photo (particularly on the sky).

Nice, I love it! I was wondering, how can I take an HDR pick? Is that a specific setting in my DSLR?

SmugMac, I did submit a 2560x1600, but that you mention it, I do not know why it's not available in the download list. I sent an inquiry and I hope I'll have an answer. Thanks for noticing, and thanks for your comment!

Thanks, excellent shot! I love dawn/dusk shots, and this one is beautiful.
@Elliott Barer: Since this is an HDR image, that will have the side effect of removing some noise. Also, he probably started with a higher resolution and the reduction would also remove noise. However, camera settings can also affect this quite a bit. For example, ISO settings are a balance between light sensitivity and graininess. Higher ISO shots have higher light sensitivity, but are also typically more grainy. For HDR you would typically use a low ISO and intentionally "bracket" the exposure so that some shots are under-exposed and some are over.

"Finally, someone knows how to use HDR properly!"..
So true. This is a really great photo and the HDR is spot on.
Thanks :)

Not a major fan of the over-used and over-abused, totally phony HDR syndrome, but this shot is quite excellent, in most every department. A keeper, for sure. Evidence that even an abused thing like HDR and "lens flare" (and other such instantly identifiable conceits) can actually be of value, when properly employed.
