Light and Rain
December 9th, 2009
Driving on Highway 285 South from Santa Fe to Roswell, New Mexico, I had to stop as the sky was putting up a show for me. The yellow desert grass was lit up by the evening sun, and created a perfect rainbow under that rain storm on the horizon. It was a spectacular evening that day.
Canon EOS 5D Mark II with 17-40L. Developed in Lightroom, adjustments in Photoshop.

Very similar to "Rain and Rainbow" by acidphosphatase, so similar in the Loupe that I didn't vote fot it 'cause I thought it was a duplicate!

It certainly looks like the wallpaper from acidphosphatase but this one is much and much better. The quality of acidphosphatase's wallpaper was very bad (sky too blurry and field color too yellow).

I like this. This is much better than the one by acidphosphatase and in no way look like a duplicate. In this photo the rainbow is centered and there's a nice balance of ground and sky. Also the double rainbow is intriguing. In the photo by acidphosphatase the rainbow is on one edge of the screen and the big gray cloud seemed to be the main focus. Acidphosphatase had a better version of that rainbow but sadly it never made it out of the Loupe and only his crappy one made to the front page.

Thank you boys and girls for your kind words! It was unfortunate that that particular photo didn't get replaced when I submitted a more improved version.
And as I said before, there are so many issues with colour profiles / monitor calibrations that these photos will all look different on different monitors and computers and unfortunately that particular photo ended up being a prime example.
Finally, perhaps someone would like to donate a dSLR my way so I don't struggle so much in anything but bright sunlight?

No offense, acid, but color calibration was definitely not the problem with your rainbow submission! A great photo shines through technical hiccups. That one wasn't close to your best by any measure. Which is why I wonder how it got submitted over the other impressive stuff in your Loupe profile? Looks like you have some gems waiting to shine in there.

Yes I do agree with you to an extent Brizkit. I did submit that particular photo as an experiment to see what gets voted on, and knew full well that it was no where near my best work... but for some reason, it was voted on more than the others! So yes, those 'gems' in my loupe may never see the light of day. One wonders if they would have done in the old days?

So as someone else suggested earlier, they should allow us to view/download the full versions of the pictures in the Loupe so that everyone can inspect them carefully before voting. Otherwise it's hard for anyone to really judge a picture through that pinhole sized preview window and crappy pictures get voted on while good ones get left behind in the Loupe.
I know this is not the right forum to mention site improvements.
So let me say once again that I love the above photo by Philippe Clairo :) (and I would have love to see some more pictures of acidphosphatase and others which got left behind).

Philippe Clair, excellent work. Lightroom used wisely brings good results. Thank you very much!
The issue of double rainbow is rather intriguing, but not totally unusual. They are raindrops with two internal reflections, something like this...
plw1234, this idea would eliminate the 'charm' of the site, making it common. But I'm sure that many images are received for a few posted.
Greetings to you all.

The Loupe is the worst thing that's ever happened to IFL. All people vote for are rainbows. Both of the subs of mine that got through were rainbow pics, while the rest of my loupe subs in my opinion are far better than what got through. And now here's another rainbow pics, as if acid's wasn't enough. Sigh.

God, there are some shots in the loupe that are so painfully good. I don't know where else to ask, so if a mod sees this, can you tell me who did "Terminillo Sunset"? I would LOVE to have this as a wallpaper. I would also like "Highland Spirit", if these end up vanishing without me ever seeing them in full resolution, it would be an absolute injustice.

@Sinjun Balabanoff: You say the Loupe is the worst thing to happen to IFL? Based on your join date it looks like you were not even here pre-loupe. Also, who's to say that if it werent for the loupe any of the pictures you mention would have made it on here? Heck your submissions may have never of been posted. At least you got to see these submissions that you love so much, even if it is only in the loupe which would not be the case on pre-loupe IFL. Your opinion as to what should and should not be posted is just that, your OPINION. I do not like every wallpaper posted but I respect the FACT that everyones taste differ and it is impossible to please everyone.
