Dragonfrog
By SingExpat
March 12th, 2010
This was taken in the blazing sun at the Singapore Zoo-- on a pond covered with giant lilly pads. I was chasing after the dragonflies and didn’t notice the frog until I got home and looked at the image in Photoshop. I’m sure the result would have been better with a proper macro lens, but I left mine at home (the 300mm and tripod is heavy enough).
Canon EOS 7D, EF300mm f2.8L IS USM, Gitzo GT 2541 tripod. f/6.3, 1/2500, ISO800. Processed in Adobe Photoshop and Noiseware.

Extremely impressive color balance. The silhouette of the frog is simply fantastic! immediately on my desktop.

Very interesting, I like the juxtaposition. A frog's main diet is insects, but in this instance it appears that the young frog is the one in jeopardy...

As previously stated, great use of colors and very fortunate image capture! Seems ironic that mr frog is about to become a snack! hehe

This one is quite definitely for those of you who have asked for anything other than landscapes! Outstanding job. I don't know if I will make it a wallpaper only because it is slightly unnerving - this, however, is my problem, not yours!

Thanks for all your kind comments.
I'm lucky to live twenty minutes away from a world-class zoo that is carved out of the jungle, so there are plenty of insects to chase after. I'm hoping that once I get more proficient at this, I'll be able to capture images like some of the shocking dragonfly closeups I've seen on the Web. Getting this photo accepted by Interface Lift (especially as it is not a landscape) is a big boost to my motivation. I'll be back chasing bugs tomorrow morning!

I'm absolutely sure. As I mentioned in the notes to the image, I didn't even know the frog was there until I opened up the image on my computer. Actually that pond has dozens of those little frogs. I tried getting a good picture of them the next day, but they are black and splotchy and not particularly attractive looking. I'm not sure how you could confirm that the frog was really there...

As for me - a bit too much noiseware...
Could you post on imageshack (or something similar) the same photo before noise removing?

qbas--- on your question, I took a look at the image before removal of noise, and I think it looks better as I processed it, but to each his own I guess.
