Wallpaper Details: The Mountains Of Guilin
The Mountains of Guilin
By roncc
March 22nd, 2010
Took this photo on a recent trip to Guilin, China. I love how the stillness of the water reflects the mountains. I took this handheld while on a bamboo raft.
Canon Rebel XS, Tokina 11-16mm, Adobe Lightroom.

I can see why this got voted for and I definitely like it the strange left of center bamboo moving platform thing is interesting (what is it ?) anyway it seems to add to the overall interest in the shot lovely background and the water looks so still and very peaceful. Yes this is a fine submission not brilliant but very good.

Saw this (and voted for this) on the loupe and really wanted to see it "full screen". I love how this picture draws you in and makes you feel like you are there on that raft drifting across the water. Great image, thanks for sharing!

Tweaked to suit my prefs (contrast, sharpness, B&W).

Cool place and composition, the distance fog is good too. The colors are a bit wishy washy.

I really light this photograph. The colours are very calming. I did adjust the horizon slightly as it didn't seem quite level to me. (maybe because you were on a raft) Thanks for submitting!

It's the raft they really gives the shot that extra touch of beauty and mystery. I would love to be on that raft!
Thank you so much for this excellent contribution.

Personally I love the raft, it gives a point of view perspective and really allows one to feel that they in the photo. Very tranquil and relaxing. One of my favorites on the this site. And no sunset anywhere to be found. : )

Thank you for all of your comments and pointers. This is actually my first submission and I am still just a beginner in photography. So all feedback and suggestions are welcomed!

The composition is very nice here but have to say the quality isn't great. The tree in the distance is out of focus and the sky just looks overcast rather than foggy/misty. A beautiful location though and it must've been nice to be there in person.

I was on a raft like that and swam in that river when last time I was in Guilin. Thoroughly enjoyed it. :)

I don't know anything about photography, but this is one of the most beautiful and serene pictures I have ever laid eyes on. It makes me feel peaceful every time it comes across my desktop!
As far as I'm concerned, it's perfect--I love the raft. It gives perspective and makes you feel as though you're ready to set sail across the lake in it.
