Boat Hut

June 30th, 2010

I took this photo at the edge of Lake Obersee in South Germany. At the opposite end is Germany's highest waterfall, so I was a bit surprised about the stillness of the water. Unfortunately I didn't have a decent camera with me, but the 5 megapixel camera on my Nokia E72 did a decent enough job!

Nokia E72.

Great photo! I would love to see the waterfall too, looks like an incredibly beautiful place.

I agree, a great photo, with water that actually looks like water and not a white HDR mess.

You took this with your phone?!?! That in itself is amazing.

^^^Agreed. I have a 7.1 megapixel point-and-shoot and would never dream of taking such a nice photo with it.

Must be the first photo on IFL taken on a phone :)

How did this get past the 2560x1600 minimum requirement though? Was it submitted ages ago?

This is the most convincing phone advertisement I've ever seen. Nokia E72, you say?

Thanks for sharing this picture. Berchtesgadener Land has a fantastic scenery. In the background you can see the Fischunkelalm, where you get germany's best buttermilk.

For a camphone, its a great picture. I wish my 5800 XM can do the same...

Very nice for a phone, a bit washed out for my taste, but it looks a lot better after a quick run through LR. I took the liberty of processing it a bit, hope it's ok, if it's not, let me know and I'll remove it. Thanks and good job !

Thanks for the comments guys! I really wasn't expecting this photo to make the cut!

@Chris Gin, the res of the original photo believe it or not, is 2592 × 1944. The E72 has a 5.0mp camera.

@Gabriel Nitu, thanks for the processing, I was trying to do a similar thing myself but don't really have the patience or knowledge to get it right. I agree it makes a big difference!

Anyone know how I get IFL to update the pic?

Great pic. Goes to show that there's more to it than the quality of the camera :)

I've just sent the picture author the highest resolution photo from here, post processed. He can reupload it if he wants to. It's only fair, since it's his photo after all. :)

Nice picture!
@Gabriel Nitu, can you explain what you did? I'm new to photoshop and I like what you did to this picture.

@D5K: It's really no big deal, just a bit of fiddling with the "Develop" mode in Adobe Lightroom, doesn't even require any advanced editing knowledge. Anyone can do it, really.

I prefer to keep the "washed out" mood of the original in processing.
