Good and creative work! :)
I like the intent here and it captures Avatar's vision well. The clouds are my favorite.. one thing though.. and it might be just me, but it looks like your planets are inside each other...

I hated the movie, but I like this one.
However, it would have been with a " flat " line if you know what I mean.

In my opinion there is a couple things that could be done to improve this so it looks more true to the film's definition of the floating mountains.
Namely a chain of them connecting as they did in the move would be interesting, connected by vines and stacked on below the other leading to the top somewhere. That's just my opinion. I am not much for criticism but there you go.
Other than that, its a great piece of art and already on my desktop. :D

Very nice! i admire this kind of art, it seems like it would be very time consuming. but this is just awesome.
btw, IFL admin, i really like that Loupe downloads feature and noticed every once in a while i cant download one, in this case its 'Michigan Sunset' posted by dohlfhauldhagen. it just wont load the picture at all. think you could fix it? also, thank you!

I guess it's ok I am not a fan of the movie. I think the movie was way over-hyped and failed to impress masses. I thought the movie was pretty stupid but that's just my opinion. This wallpaper is not all that impressive to me either it just doesn't cut it for me maybe next time. Sorry. Cheers.

Oh I forgot to say that I am a big fan of your other work with the boat and fireworks it's one of my all time favorites but this one just doesn't do it for me. Good luck next time.

I think the airborne islands lack shadow detail, look muddy and lack depth. The horizon is on a bias also.
I too thought the movie was way too programatic. Hollywood has lost all sense of imagination and originality. It's "throw in the special effects and do the plot by the numbers."

your boat with fireworks is one of the best wallpapers on here, this one just doesn't cut it. it's not even particularly bad, it's just so uninteresting.

My problem with this, regardless of what I think about the movie Avatar, is that your illustration is derivative in subject matter; the color palette is monochromatic, lacking warmth or variety; the composition is adequate, but the elements don't hang together. The sense of cold isolation is palpable, though, if that's what you were going for. You're a talented digital artist, but some of your compositions lack cohesion, a unified vision. For instance, I would love to see a version of the lonely boat on the lake without the fireworks in the sky. That would be a powerful painting. As it is now it's just cute.

It's alright, but the clouds just don't look convincing to me, which kind of ruins it. I know they weren't supposed to look normal, I get what they were going for with a sort of wispy, ethereal look, but they don't really seem to hit the mark for me.
However, I will say that other than that this is pretty impressive, and I disagree with Euphytose, I think the angle is perfect for the image.

You know, lots of people are bashing this desktop, but I will stand up for it. I personally think it looks awesome, and I'm using it as one of my desktops.
Guys, art is subjective; what one person hates, another person loves. Try to remember that when you post.
I bash some desktops because I think that people sometimes game the Loupe to get them published to the front page, but I always try to avoid labeling a desktop as not being "good."

I would've liked to see those hovering isles shaped a little more different from eachother though.
Nice work nonetheless. :)
