Bahamian Cloudbreak

August 30th, 2010

Taken on our return "cruise" home from Grand Bahama. There was a fierce thunderstorm surrounding the island and I'm surprised we managed to avoid it all. Colours obviously altered.

Canon EOS Rebel XSi (450D), Adobe Photoshop CS5.

I love the simplicity and the colors. New desktop.

I really don't think I would change anything. It looks great!

I really enjoy the perspective of this one, it has a sort of 'Epic' feel to it. Also the contrast between light and dark is perfect.

Its a little bit grainy on my 24" but I am using it as my wallpaper for sure!

Beautiful! Very interesting effect with the varied saturation levels... I like this a lot!

The light to cloud color transition in the center seems a bit abrupt, and maybe that's intentional but I would try to blend it more smoothly.

very beautiful picture. Love the colors of the sky and the stillness of the water

the contrast between the light and dark may be a little much but I'm gonna try it on my desktop for awhile.

Thanks guys! I know it sounds a little crazy, but I didn't alter the brightness levels very much at all from the actual photograph. I couldn't believe how heavy the storm clouds were right next to the cloudbreak. I was amazed at how calm the ocean was in the midst of such a storm. I may submit another photo or two from the same trip, because it looks even more intense almost 270 degrees around us from there.

Apologies for the grain; my photography still needs a bit of work.

I like this, the nice turquoise color of the ocean and the high contrast in the clouds.

I wish the photo was following the rule of thirds since it's a landscape. It would be even more dramatic in look.

Love the colours, love that orange and turquoise, and of course that whopping great cloud.

Hmmm perhaps more sky less sea, since the sky is contributing most to the drama. And personally, would love a shot further over to the left, so there's less darkness.

Really like this image, I go cruising 3x a year for shots like these, we have been un/fortunate to not have any bad weather while we're out. great job!

maybe put the original out there for us to see, aside from that I enjoyed looking at this picture.
