Green Tree in Ireland

September 9th, 2010

Kids were playing soccer behing me as I shot this old tree in a park near Malahide, Dublin during a lazy summer afternoon with wonderfully mellow light.

Nikon D90, Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR, Adobe Lightroom 3.

53°26'37.81"N, 6° 9'57.33"W

I really like to uphold new photographers and their work, (because i'm one of them) but...

It's a tree....?

I just find the subject very normal; something anyone could do. It might be interesting in B&W.

Just my two cents...

Well, I for one happen to love the "lone" tree... and in color!
It takes an imagination away to a place where heart and mind can meet by the tree and contemplate or pray.

Thank you for this, what is now my wallpaper.... where I can escape to, to find thoughts and feelings and pray.

Paul

saturation seems a little off, but otherwise an excellent picture.

Oh yes it's a tree, a wonderful one!!
One might say the shot is overprocessed, but in this case the processing brought in some magic. Quite different and beautiful!

I love it as is.
Please keep 'em coming :)
Best regards!

Great looking tree and about as full as I have ever seen.

The shot is just too bright to be used as a desktop though. Makes me look for my sunglasses.

The ability to produce a windows (clone type) image is there. Post processing is a bit different.

Parts of the sky are 'blown'. maybe less PP I think.

I do love the tree.. subject (sorry, not a photographers).. it's wonderful.

I'm not keen on the brightness (for my desktop tastes) or the colouring (except the green of the leaves). I'd love to see the original.

Very vivid, and an extraordinary tree, I live in Ireland and was born in Dublin, so it does bring me back a bit.

Although it reminds me of a very stereotypically perception that other countries (and I'm guessing you are American) that Ireland is all just green and nothing else, I don't like the fact that the trunk of the tree is green, just makes it unrealistic and takes away from it.

Thank you so much about your helpful comments, which I really appreciate.

Is there any way I can show you the original here?

The original? Well, I guess you crop it & submit that as well. :) Other than that, I don't think it can be done here. You could upload it to an image hosting site & post the URL here.. assuming that allowed still. ;) Thanks anyway. :)

Nice image and I'd love to see the original. :) I like the density in the leaves.

You can upload the original to a site such as www.imgur.com, and share the link to it here.

Purdy, thank you for your comment. I can understand your feelings but let me assure you the poost-processing was not motivated by any national clichés - I simply love that tree and would have processed it the same way had it been from Germany, which is where I come from.

I actually like the tree. the definition is amazing.

I think the washed out effect works for the foreground but not the background. Also I build in the back seems to take away from the overall feel of the picture.
