The Beach

September 28th, 2010

Taken at a nearly empty beach in Renesse, Zeeland (Netherlands) last August. It was really nice weather and the sky looked amazing. It just asks to be on your desktop!

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM.

The colors are great and the subject is nice. I love the way the clouds give depth.

From the thumbnail I thought the picture was tilted, but it is not. It's the coastline that suggests it. Taking more sea or no sea at all could improve it and avoid the feeling that the horizon is not, well, horizontal.

The choice to put the horizon in the center (or close to it) gives some awkwardness to the picture. Can you consider using the rule of the thirds?

I love photos like this, they just rest my eyes and work great as a desktop wallpaper. The colors are amazing, but as soon as i seen this photo i imagined it as a black and white, high contrast photo. I played with it to see some results, looks amazing as a black and white, i suggest you try for yourself :). Thanks keep them coming.

One thing that bothers me that i also corrected on my wallpaper is the horizon line on the right, i extended some sand over the black line and it looks perfect. Thats about it :)

These are the kinds of pictures i love, they look amazing, but there not just a shot, theyre art. The clouds look amazing, they really catch the eye, and i love how you can see all that detail in the sand. Really amazing.

Yea as mentioned above that black line bothers me a bit too, some quick photoshoping can fix it tho. Great shot :)

This is a truly astonishing work of art here. I thought it would be a tad boring on the desktop but I can tell it will be on mine for a very long time. The sky is truly amazing and I actually like the "black line". Nature isn't perfect.

Nothing. It's great and I love the fact you didn't try and make it boring by using the rule of thirds. Adds just enough tension to make it interesting. Thanks!

Simplistic and beautiful. I love the perspective the clouds create; it implies a vertex in the center of the image and allows the symmetry on each side to completely envelop the viewer. Very involving and silent.

There are a couple of spots on your lens in the upper left area of the photo; I'd also check your ISO settings because the sky is quite a bit grainy for how bright it appears outside. Also, I agree with the others that the dark line on the right side should be Photoshopped out for ultimate symmetry. Other than that it's an amazing photo; great job!
