Good Night, Monaco

January 29th, 2011

HDR Image made with 5 Exposures. Image was taken mid-October 2010, using a 5D II, 14mm f2.8L @ f14. Due to the high f, the 5 Exposures took me quite some time to make, but luckily there was hardly any wind or waves that day, so the large cruise ship stood still nicely! :)

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM @ f/14.

two words- simply incredible.
city shots at dusk is my favorite, but this.. birds eye view of a city with the last glimpse of light peaking from around the mountain and even a lit up cruise ship in the harbour- is just perfect (Imo)
it is EXACTLY my kind of shot to a T.
Well done my friend. 10/10 in my books.

Well the first place i looked was the water, because usually it is not perfect in night shots like this but cant seem to notice anything, the grain is very minimal. The only thing i notice is that very slight kind of purple aura around the mountain in the background but to be honest i kind of like that..

Wow, absolutely stunning. I don't really like most HDR images because most times it just doesn't look realistic enough, and sometimes the exposures don't fit together very well. But you got this picture just as it had to be.

I think this one belongs in my top 10 of all wallpapers on InterfaceLIFT :)

Taking 5 exposures to use HDR was a brave choice at f14, and it has worked out brilliantly. The transition between sunset and dusk is well balanced with the dark blue-black of the coming night on the left and the last of the sun, so rosy on the right. The HDR is just at the right level to make the lights and reflections enticing. Now I'm curious about the city and would love a follow up shot with the horizon in the top third of the picture so that Monaco at dusk, from above, can be enjoyed as well. Thanks for sharing.
