Gold!
March 16th, 2011
So I'm at the beach in Monmouth, New Jersey trying to get a sunset shot and starting to become very disappointed because of these thiiiiiick clouds that were completely blocking out the sun to my 3 o'clock. All of a sudden, bam! It breaks and I'm able to capture this light. It lasted about 7 minutes and then more cloud cover and it was over. I guess I got lucky.
Canon EOS Rebel XSi, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM, Lee ND Grad Filters .6 and .9, Adobe Photoshop CS5.

Interesting shot my man! I love your choice of exposure time. I actually tire of all the super long exposures making water look too soft. Water's soft enough without always making it look like a it's in a gaseous state people. :P Anyways, you gotta love that golden light hitting the curling wave in the background, and the rock on the far right seems to catch my interest again and again as I glance over this piece. Good work dannylongnamephotography! :P This is definitely a keeper!

Oh my freaking doG! I cannot believe how sharp this image is. It's as if my screen is actually a window and I'm looking out at the beach in Monmouth. Major props!!

A SUPERB capture. It proves that even a so-called "consumer" camera can take fantastic pics.
Change it under NO circumstances. I simply cannot see a way this shot could be improved (added because it wouldn't accept the first comment because it was too brief).

It's a nice capture just wish there was a bit more color in it.

Congratulations on a superb shot. The preternatural realism is mind blowing. It is as if a layer of gauze has been lifted.
The only improvement I can think of is taking more of the same quality shots of various subject matter.

Just unbelievable really. Fantastic shot, excellent work.
I don't think I understand the prior comment about this being a "consumer" camera. You should see some shots I've gotten with an old G5. Canon makes a superior product, period. All of their cameras are professionally viable. What is required is simply a good photographer - as you have demonstrated well.
The best backgrounds allow me a bit of escape while I'm working and this one has to be in the top of those I can ever remember.

The execution of this photo is unparalleled. It's beyond me how you managed to get such clarity and crispness. Well done.
My only suggestion would be to work on the composition. I think having one primary focus, rather than a several throughout the image, would have added to the overall dramatic effect. This is just my opinion.
Still, this is a phenomenal shot!

Very, very nice image. Love it.
Almost seems like a 3D render in places. Perfectly suited as a desktop background, too.
Love the 450D camera. I'll have to treat myself to a quality wide angle lens for it soon.
Great work :)

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the kind words about this pic. I am very proud of it.
Some asked what the settings were for this. Here they are:
1/5, F/9.0 ISO 100
Lee ND Grad Filters (Soft Edge) .6 and .9 for a total of 5 stops of light in the sky.
Hope this helps!
Danny
I don't really think I would change much with this shot. I like it the way it is.

You say you got lucky, well maybe so but I reckon it was also due to your perseverance and knowledge that produced that great shot--thanks.

I really like this one. The exposure on the wave in the background is perfect - fast enough to retain the structure of the wave yet slow enough that the motion isn't frozen, giving more life to the image. Excellent timing as well, just as the wave is about to break.
The colours and the lighting are also lovely.
I'm not so keen on the wooden structure in the foreground myself, but I can see how it can make the image more interesting and it provides a strong line though the centre of the picture.

As a Pastor much of what I see reminds me of scripture. I discovered your picture quite by accident but when I saw it - it was like a pearl of great price... Your able to capture this moment in time made me feel as if I were standing on that beach smelling the salt sea air.
Mat 13:45-46 Jesus said the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking extraordinarily beautiful pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
Your photograph was like that pearl to me...
Thank you

And just like the merchant...I'm saving to be able to purchase this photograph, it will look fabulous in the churches foyer)

great shot! I love experiencing those moments, when you're out there, trying your best, it seems like you're not going to have any luck and then suddenly for a couple seconds or minutes you are given a magical scene.
Nothing I dislike about this picture! The sky is on the edge of being a little too dark for my taste, but still ok.
