Sydney Opera House Black and White

April 12th, 2011

Taken from a ferry going across Sydney Harbour in February, 2011. Mainly just luck in getting it all to line up straight.

Canon EOS 7D, Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM. Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.

I've always liked the feel that B&W adds to photos.

However, I don't like seeing only part of a subject. Why not the whole Opera House? Or at least a little more. In a word, this picture is boring. No interest at all. The Sydney Opera House has been a building I have loved since I was very young. If this photo had been a more complete view of the Opera House, I would have downloaded it. This one is a miss though.

I also skipped this one... not enough opera house and not enough detail and too much noise.

I like this. ItÂ’s instantly recognisable as the Opera house and focuses on what makes the Opera House so unique imho and has an alien feel to it.
There must be a million photos of the Opera house that show it as a complete building, why take another one.

I agree with @Ferguson and @Daddy_Gemini there is not enough Opera House and it is too minimalistic for me.

It is maybe weird but when I look on this photo longer this piece of the Opera reminds me spaceship StarTrek: Enterprise ;)

I really like this shot, socks. As user4574 said, it captures what makes the Opera House recognizable. The minimalist approach is an individual taste and its one that I can appreciate. It looks quite good on my dual monitor setup.

Gemini is right; there IS a lot of noise and not enough detail.

this photo looks like it would belong in the OS X stock "black and white" wallpapers section! although it is peaceful, i can see a lot of people not really liking it as a wallpaper image. but for people like me who dont want to be distracted by their wallpaper often, it can find its way into a rotation.

i can only wonder what the photo looks like in color? and was the noise added in processing? putting up the original somewhere would be an interesting contrast

I think the image is just fine the way it is. Would have been better to not say anything about the opera house and just left it the way it was though. I think people are disliking it because they are expecting something. Good Job though

Maybe change the crop angle. I believe that might leave more for the viewer to see.

This is really Fantastic. Black & White allows you to focus just on the shape and texture... and the visual weight of the dome relative to white space is just... breathtaking. This is my new favorite InterfaceLift wallpaper! Thanks for sharing.

Might want to slightly tweak the sky darkness/lightness... there might be a slight 'halo' effect around the dome too... not sure if thats intentional (or if its necessarily bad)... just noticing.
