Asgard - Realm of the Gods

June 1st, 2011

When I saw the movie Thor, I was absolutely blown away by the Asgard interpretation and I told myself: "You gotta build that in Photoshop". So I did! It's a multi-layer creation, based on a series of Swiss Alps photos (one of them has been used for 1,000 feet above the Alps).

Nikon D300, Sigma 10-20mm, Adobe Photoshop CS5.

Really nice picture and landscape, though I think the addition to the sky ruins it..

Very cool! Definitely a keeper and will be frequenting my desktop. The only thing that makes it look a little too surreal, which I know that's what you were going for, is the fact that the sun is too far above the horizon for that much detail in the stars to be seen. However, this is an alien planet. So the sun could either be farther away and smaller than our sun, or they could have less atmosphere or even breathe a different atmosphere so I guess that makes it possible. I love it anyways thanks Dominic! You have some of the best photoshopping skills on IFL. =)

I would have loved this image if there had been no manipulation other than the basics.

The addition of the outer space sky ruins it for me. Sorry Dominic, I've loved many of your other submissions, just not this one. Could you release this one with the original sky?

This looks fantastic! Although I usually don't like overly photoshopped wallpapers, I must say that I just love the way you managed to create this scene! Great blend, just beautiful! And agreed, the Thor visuals were beeauuuuuutiful!

If you don't like the manipulations Dominic has done with this image, then just download his other wallpaper "1,000ft above the alps"! It's almost the same and looks stunning as well!

I like the image very much. That outer space sky is much better than the usual blue sky with white clouds. I think it fits really well.

I was ready to set this one as my new wallpaper, until I saw the sky. Dealbreaker for me. With the original sky it would be an instant fav for me.

Thanks for your comments. Sorry to hear that the sky is really such a deal breaker for some of you. As I already said in the description, I recreated a scene of Thor. If you haven't watched Thor already, then you probably won't recognize the scene. I was blown away and that's why I merged the space nebula into the sky.

Nevertheless, I created a "dealbreaker-free" version and uploaded it to my website www.DominicKamp.de

Thanks for the "Dealbreaker Free" version! Now I can honestly say that I LOVE it! The DB Free version makes me feel like I'm looking down from heaven. Very nice!

LOL at "Dealbreaker Free" version and abbreviating it as "DB Free" version. I'll go check out the "Un-Final" product on your website Dom but I just want you to know I still love this version which was never a DB for me! LOL =)

This is beautifully done. I usually don't prefer added content like the nebula but I think it works very well here. My only suggestion would be concerning the small sunlit area on the far right midline. The color seems to be much more blue/gray than the rest of the golden sunlit areas and seems out of place, IMO.
