The Last Ray of Light
By EMK
July 1st, 2011
As i was hiking through the Bavarian alps in late Spring, i see that ray of light, coming over the top of the mountains. It was late afternoon.

That could be caused by converting color spaces, i think. With that, i must be more careful in future... ;-)

I don't think the banding is that bad really. I mean, it's there, but I've seen much worse, and it doesn't ruin the shot for me. I think maybe pointing the camera slightly up and to the left would have benefited the composition and made it less symmetrical. Also, the HDR really darkens the sky dramatically in this one. That's one of the things that bugs me about HDR shots in general, the halos around sections of an image (especially the sky).
I cropped two different versions of this, one with a little bit of the bottom and right side cut off, and the other cuts off everything from where the clouds start to the right side, and then everything below the tops of the trees in the foreground, keeping the top-left corner. That area is just really pleasing to look at to me. Still a good sharp shot though, and I expect we'll see more great work from you soon.

Love the colors and the view! Perfect as my new desktop background! I actually don't mind the light band.

noticeable banding in the sky. I see this quite often, and I'm not sure what causes it. It's definitely avoidable or fixable though because most photos have smoothly colored skies.
