Porth Nanven

July 23rd, 2011

Porth Nanven lies on the northern Cornish coastline, and is renowned for its ovoid rock beach. On holiday earlier this year I was able to photograph a rather cloudy sunset there.

Canon EOS 40D, Tamron 17-50mm f2.8, B&W ND110 filter, Manfrotto 410 head and 190 tripod. Processed in Canon DPP and Paint Shop Pro.

Lat/Lon: 50.07.08.73N, 05.41.59.18W

Yessss! This is so awesome! I wouldn't call myself a "pink" kind of guy, but all the colors in this that range from red-orange to magenta (including the pinks), work so well together. I have to ask, just how much color modification did you do? This looks like an alien planet and that land on the horizon line in the background really just tops off this already amazing piece of art.

Everything is working together here, the composition, colors, exposure and post-processing. Also it is a clear detailed shot that is really easy on the eyes and that little patch of sand looks so pure and soft. You really captured something here like you were in the right place at the right time, and then you framed it just right and caught this once in a lifetime shot. Thank you Julian!

Thanks for your kind comments!

There's not a lot of processing in this image, the colours are fairly similar to the RAW image - there was quite an odd hazy cloud bank on that day. I tweaked the blue level slightly, along with the contrast and saturation just a small amount. The red colour cast is partly due to the B&W ND110 10 stop filter and HiTech reverse grad filter.

Absolutely stunning photograph! One of my favorite images I've seen on Interfacelift in quite some time. I love Seascapes and this a beautiful one. I can't think of any flaws as it's very professionally done. Keep them coming!

Fantastic colors and great composition. I love the variety of textures that work so well together.

My only nitpick is that the sun isn't spherical, for obvious reasons haha. I suppose you could have edited it.
