Freezing Night in Switzerland

December 20th, 2011

Here is a shot after sunset and after the first snow in Switzerland. Even if the Sun has been gone for a while now, there is still plenty to see out there on the white snowy fields in the freezing nights we are having in Switzerland at the moment. I hope that this shot gives back this feeling.

Nikon D700, Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR, Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod and remote trigger. Post-processed in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3.3.

Colors are fantastic... nice shot. Although the framing could be done a little better.

I would have cropped this differently in order to make the horizon not in the center. I would have lowered it, then take the streaks out of the sky.

@Mark, thank you for your comment ! In fact, about the framing, it's exactly what I thought. I also ralized it after looking at the pic on the computer. I found the ground plus the sky interesting, but I don't know why I captured the horizon in the middle ! From now on I am trying to avoid the horizon in the middle. :)

very beautiful. Especially the star movements.
Where was the picture taken?

The snow looks purple. I would like it more if it was a little more blue.

Thank you for your kind comment Manis !

As said in the description, it was taken in Switzerland. Precisely, it's not far from Geneva, like 30km NE.

It took me quite long to get the right color for the snow, and I think that blue would remind too much of the sky. But thank you for your comment, I'll watch it in the future. It's not an easy game shooting in snowy conditions ! :)
