Mana Kai

March 3rd, 2012

Mana Kai is a resort on the West shores of the island of Maui, in Kihei, Hawaii. Every night, at sunset, the conch shell horn is blown to say goodbye to the day, and hello to the night. I shot this long exposure at this moment, in a high dynamic range way. Hope you like it. Mahalo!

Canon EOS 5D Mark II with Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM lens. Developed in Adobe Lightroom 4 beta, HDR in Photomatix4 and sharpening in Adobe Photoshop CS 5.5.

Location: 20° 42' 16.16" N, 156° 26' 49.43" W

I am listening very closely to my computer speakers and I clearly hear the conch shell horn. I can also hear the gently surf to mark diurnal transition.

I stayed in Kihei near 5 Palms this past September, and I fondly remember the conch being sounded every night...great image!
