Amazing Milky Way II

May 9th, 2012

I stayed over the night on the Hirschberg near Bad Hindelang, Bavaria, Germany. At midnight when I arrived but the sky was full of clouds. However, at the moment I woke up (at 3 a.m.) it was completely clear. It was cold so I couldn't sleep. Finally it was absolutely worth it to stay there :) I want to dedicate this to my friend Melli :) I hope you like it!

Canon EOS 550D, Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX AF 11-16mm f/2.8.

I am not a professional photographer at all but I gotta say that all your photos are amazing! Really great work!

Thanks for your comments!

@applesuperwoman: Thank you!

@Atero: Hey, danke.

How many pictures did you use for this composition ?

2, one for the stars and one for the mountains because they would be too unsharp in the other picture

I personally don't mind some unsharpness as long as the picture is really real. Artificial landscapes highly upset me as they always fail to deliver the true magic of nature.

Is there any chance you could submit the untouched version of the second picture ?

Hey, the 2 pictures were actually the same but taken with different settings.
So the mountains in the first picture are exactely the same as in the final result. I only combined the longer exposed one with the star picture to get it sharp and not so grainy.

One word: wow! It's rare that I see such a high quality picture of the stars and this shot is simply breathtaking! (As are the others in your Milky Way series). The sky and stars are so clear and crisp and overall it looks fantastic! :)

If I hadn't read some of the comments I wouldn't have known that you merged two shots together either, because it looks totally seamless!
