Maroon Bells
By jbkalla
October 8th, 2012
At Maroon Lake near Aspen, Colorado. Unfortunately, I was a few weeks too late to catch the Aspen colors! (note the bare trees on the right).
Three exposures, tonemapped in Nik HDR Efex Pro plugin for Lightroom, then warmed up a bit in Nik Color Efex Pro.
Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM.
Photo Settings: 20mm, f/16, ISO 160.
Map: 39.0981, -106.9431

It's a picturesque composition, and I like the more unusual autumn colours from the deciduous trees.
This is a biggie: I find this image massively oversaturated. I opened it in Photoshop and took it down to -40 before it really looked at all natural to me. I don't know it is intentional to make it more impressionistic, but for me it doesn't work at all.

Not exactly an improvement per se but if you ever have the time hike up to Trail Rider pass (another 10-15 miles) and get the view of Snowmass Lake from there.
