The Wanderer At The Campfire

February 27th, 2018

No matter how dark the night, the bigger the campfire, the more darkness is revealed!

Taken with a Nikon D850 and a Sigma 14mm @ f/1.8 (ISO 400) & 15 seconds exposure. Three individual shots were stitched together in Lightroom CC Classic and then processed in Photoshop CC. Color correction with NIK Color Efex. Finding right spot & preparation took 6h plus editing another 3h. Enjoy and let me know whether you'd like to know more.

Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom CC.

Photo Settings: 14mm, f/1, 15 seconds, ISO 400.

Map: 47.0256, 8.9806

I'm always in awe at the quality and clarity you manage to retain in your night sky photographs.
Where in a lot of high-res night sky photos the sky itself becomes a grainy, blurry mess with elongated stars due to the long exposues, yours are always perfect.
I'd love to know how you do this, but 'TRADE SECRET!' is also an answer ;-)

I don't know if the pond in the front is working out so well. Due to the blurry snowy border the clear reflections of the fire don't really add up. It kind of gives the impression that the water is going underneath some sort of overhanging snow-sheet.

This one is absolutely amazing. I can't even express how perfect the sky is. The campfire light gives it the impression of a beautiful Rembrandt painting.

I'm normally not a fan of people in a nature photograph, but in this case I can most certainly forgive you for it. ;)

Brilliant sky detail, wonderful lighting. The background and foreground are obvious manipulations, but the background with the sky is much more forgivable. The "water" is so obvious that I'm sure it distracts a lot of people from using this as a wallpaper, it's just that... amateur? I'm curious to what you were hiding with the coverup?
