Painted Plains

April 21st, 2015
On Wednesday I spent 14 hours and drove around 700 miles chasing storms through Kansas and Oklahoma. The "cap" prevented many of the storms from producing much, but we ended the night with a breathtaking sunset that lasted over an hour! What a sight! This is a photo I took near Enid, Oklahoma while we were enjoying the show.

Tuscan Sunset
By alx2056
January 1st, 2010
I stayed out during the evening meal time to get a great sunset in Tuscany. Several other drivers pulled off the autostrada on the right. I got here early, and waited on the color and the clouds to develop. I sat in a wheat field for what seemed like forever before I got the perfect shot.

Bandon Face Rock
By Robert Bynum
December 8th, 2013
The locally famous "Face Rock" in Bandon, Oregon, USA. Lots of photographers flock to this small coastal town these days. You see ads for tours to Bandon in magazines such as Outdoor Photographer. This small town has changed much from the 1980s when I went to high school there.

Eastern State Penitentiary
September 30th, 2013
The Eastern State Penitentiary is a former American prison in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is found at 2027 Fairmount Avenue between Corinthian Avenue and North 22nd Street in the Fairmount section of the city, and was operational from 1829 until 1971. The penitentiary refined the revolutionary system of separate incarceration first pioneered at the Walnut Street Jail which emphasized principles of reform rather than punishment.
Notorious criminals such as bank robber Willie Sutton and Al Capone were held inside its innovative wagon wheel design. At its completion, the building was the largest and most expensive public structure ever erected, and quickly became a model for more than 300 prisons worldwide.
The prison is currently a U.S. National Historic Landmark, which is open to the public as a museum for tours seven days a week, twelve months a year 10 am to 5 pm.
