Boyd's Forest Dragon

March 13th, 2017

Walking through the Daintree Rainforest I stumbled back as I saw this lizard clinging to a tree at my eye level. We looked at each other for a while, he didn't move at all, and he kindly let me take his photograph before I continued through the rainforest back to Mossman Gorge.

Dorset Durdle Door

July 23rd, 2016

The form of the coastline around Durdle Door is controlled by its geology--both by the contrasting hardnesses of the rocks, and by the local patterns of faults and folds. The arch has formed on a concordant coastline where bands of rock run parallel to the shoreline. The rock strata are almost vertical, and the bands of rock are quite narrow. Originally a band of resistant Portland limestone ran along the shore, the same band that appears one mile along the coast forming the narrow entrance to Lulworth Cove. Behind this is a 120-metre (390 ft) band of weaker, easily eroded rocks, and behind this is a stronger and much thicker band of chalk, which forms the Purbeck Hills. These steeply dipping rocks are part of the geological structure known as the Lulworth crumple, itself part of a broader monocline (a kinked type of geological fold) produced by the building of the Alps during the mid-Cenozoic.

Nebula City

December 2nd, 2015

Taken from the top deck on the 102nd floor. At sixteen floors above the 86th floor observatory of the Empire State Building, it gives the most spectacular views of the city and beyond.

Clouds were gathering and slowly casting over the city which gave a very intense atmosphere. Enjoy!

NYC Skyline Sunset

January 20th, 2017

This image was taken from Brooklyn Bridge Park just around sunset.

As it was December, the trees were barren and the sky very gray most days. As it cleared up one afternoon, I got set up and waited for the orange glow to hit the glass on the buildings, the trees to the side and the pylons in the water.

The Road to Nowhere

February 9th, 2012

When I flew to the the United States I had this kind of picture in my mind. So when I actually got to drive there (Death Valley, California), this was the image that I always wanted to shoot. So I got out of the car with easily over 125 degrees Fahrenheit, kneeled down and shot it. It was hot but certainly worth it!

Orion Nebula in the Infrared

January 18th, 2013

Acknowledgment: Cambridge Astronomical Survey Unit

This wide-field view of the Orion Nebula (Messier 42), lying about 1350 light-years from Earth, was taken with the VISTA infrared survey telescope at ESO's Paranal Observatory in Chile. The new telescope's huge field of view allows the whole nebula and its surroundings to be imaged in a single picture and its infrared vision also means that it can peer deep into the normally hidden dusty regions and reveal the curious antics of the very active young stars buried there. This image was created from images taken through Z, J and Ks filters in the near-infrared part of the spectrum. The exposure times were ten minutes per filter. The image covers a region of sky about one degree by 1.5 degrees.

Victoria's View

May 7th, 2017

View from Victoria Peak onto Hong Kong, Kowloon and the surrounding areas.

Taken with Canon EOS 5DS R and the Zeiss Milvus 18mm lens, the sharpness and the level of detail are absolutely insane. You will need some time to practice because there is no autofocus on those lenses but its so much fun (and results are so insane) once you got used to it.

During my Honeymoon I woke up before the sunrise and went out for a walk. This picture describes what every sunrise was like in French Polynesia. The water by the first hut is only 3 feet deep, and by the furthest hut is about 4 feet deep.

If you ever have the opportunity to go, make sure you have your camera by your side at all times. I ended up with over 1450 pictures during my two week stay. This is one of my favorites.

Big Apple at Twilight

June 22nd, 2016

After a day with somehow cloudy and rainy weather, we'd been really lucky to get a great sunset on top of the Empire State Building. We stayed there for three hours, watching the Big Apple first getting darker and darker and later becoming the city of stars. What a great place to be!
