Under Proxy Falls

July 16th, 2014

This image was the result of a workshop with "Starving Photographer" Mahesh Thapa on July 11, 2014. Mahesh really emphasized that getting in the water and capturing several exposures would give the best results. Man, was he right.

Celestial Fireworks

April 24th, 2015

NASA and ESA are celebrating the Hubble Space Telescope's silver anniversary of 25 years in space by unveiling some of nature's own fireworks — a giant cluster of about 3,000 stars called Westerlund 2. The cluster resides inside a vibrant stellar breeding ground known as Gum 29, located 20,000 light-years away in the constellation Carina. The comparatively young, 2-million-year-old star cluster contains some of our galaxy's hottest, brightest, and most massive stars. The largest stars are unleashing a torrent of ultraviolet light and hurricane-force winds that etch away the enveloping hydrogen gas cloud. This creates a fantasy celestial landscape of pillars, ridges, and valleys.

Montana River

July 5th, 2014

A particularly heavy snow year and ample spring rains have made this river outside of Big Sky, Montana swell with quite a force. The photo was taken as the sun started to turn gold and head towards the horizon, giving this canyon it's last warmth for the day.

Glacier Trifecta

August 17th, 2017

Red and green aurora, Milky Way, and a passing meteor in a single composition. Taken Memorial Day weekend at Glacier National Park before Going To The Sun Road was even open. We drove the long way around in the middle of the night from Apgar to the east St. Mary entrance just to catch the Milky Way on St. Mary Lake. We were incredibly fortunate that evening.

A battle with an incoming tide from the Celtic Sea. A band of low pressure and strong winds allowed the tide to rise up as far as this shot shows. Normally it rests further below.

Plitvice - Secret Waterfall

May 3rd, 2014

A waterfall in the closed section of Plitvice National Park. I used a neutral density filter to get the water smooth and HDR to get the full dynamic range of the image.

Plitvice is a magical place, but very overrun by tourists.
