Homeworld

February 5th, 2009

This image is 100% Photoshop. It took about 6 hours to create. When i was making the planet on the left i was just about done when i kicked out the power plug without saving the image. I had to redo it and the quality isn't as good as the original. That was frustrating. Anyway hope you like ;)

This is cool. I like the little ship down at the bottom. Clever touch.

Beautiful. Better than real space shots, I think.

Oh man, sorry to hear about the power problem. I've been through the same thing, it's painful to take in!

But this still looks great, very good piece of Photoshop. ;)

Can I be a total nerd and point out all the scientifically incorrect things in the image? No i'm not going to do that, good work :)

I'd really like to see this in Dual Screen res (2560x1024)

wow I am sorry to hear about having to redo it! My computer has a knack for shutting off randomly. It usually waits until I have something important not saved, too.

Cool picture. I think you made a good choice with the rings, keeping them sorta whispy. Putting too much detail in them I think would have made the picture too busy.

I agree with you whole-heartedly, the original was much better! All kidding aside, this is fantastic. Pictures of deep space do indeed carry the mind away spurring the imagination and tugging at our sense of wonder. Good job. PS: It takes me six hours simply to draw a straight line in PS.

Very very very good job, my dear friend.

I know this comment is a little "pain-in-the-ass", but get yourself together one day, and try to redo the left planet,.. once again.
It's very "lacky", and that's very sad, 'cause it disturb the beautiful piece of art!

And all ya' other guys, why are you thumbing down all good comments? It's kinda freakin annoying.

Please, only use the thumbs down, if the comment really deserve a thumb DOWN.

Once more, "thumbs down" means "I disagree," not "You're evil and I hate you." Anyways, I know I already left a comment, but I wanted to tell you Phil that while I only have a 1280x800 screen, I took a moment to look at the largest resolution and zoom into everything and: WOW. I mean yes, as you even said there's a noticeable difference in quality between the left planet and all the rest, but it's still pretty good. And everything else is simply incredible. Those of us with small screens just can't give justice to this thing because all the detail you worked in is lost on the smaller resolutions. A shame, but really: this is impressive. And six hours, that's all? Now I'm a total foreigner to Photoshop, but that still seems like a rather short time for such a detailed piece. Some serious talent, man.

The following is an excerpt for a previous post of mine: I rarely if ever rate a comment. I think the "agree/disagree" system presents one with a false or limited choice. I would rather see a rating choice such "merit/no merit." Consequently you are at liberty to disagree with someone but indicate that their opinion is well taken.

SumYungGuy took the post out of my keyboard! This is astronomically inaccurate, but it's impressive enough to be left alone. Really nice work here. That said, I think there are "real" space shots that would be just as breathtaking on IFL. (Run a Google search for Hubble photos to see what I mean.)

Very creative. You don't have to be on point or exact with ART that you do in photoshop. It's all about being creative and imaginative. Eventually, the audience will get the point. I really enjoyed this piece of ART, however, I liked your other one better. Keep up the good work!

Very nicely done. Although you say the planet on the left didn't come out as nicely as you would have hoped...I am a fan of darker wallpapers and all my icons are on the left so more detail would just be covered up by my icons. This is perfect for me and I have put it on my desktop! Thanks!

Hey, guys!
I got a question for SumYungGuy and/or brizkit.
Can you tell me what scientific/astrological facts are absent in the wallpaper? Just curious.
P.S. Great job; a true artist and a Pro in Photoshop.

Why do I doubt all the people complaining that this is "inaccurate from reality" are anything even close to being astrophysicists? Anyway, this is really dope. Planet on the right is from: http://burning-liquid.deviantart.com/art/Terra-Nova-Planet-Resource-13299327, is it not?
