I like this however something is wrong with the sky on my monitor like a case of to much compression or something ...

This is one of my most favorite wallpapers here! Amazing job capturing this perfect vista Chris! I do see what Yorkie is saying... it does appear that the sky for some odd reason has blotches of jpg artifacts or compression over the board.

This is special, because this is normal..a normal view of a normal landscape in a normal sunny day..but it's wonderful!

Wow Chris, I was hoping for this to get out of the loop! I love the scenery and the serenely atmosphere!

I'm really looking forward to your "Splash" wallpaper!

The gradient in the sky area is distracting and ruins the whole photo.

Nice shot Mr. Gin. Great composition and color. Thanks!!

@Quatix: I disagree. Almost every comment you leave refers to a obvious and distracting gradient.Go look at the sky and see if it is the exact color of blue all the way across when the sun is low on the horizon. Its not. The closer you get to the sun the more washed out the sky looks and vice versa. Gradients in the sky can happen naturally. Polorizers will increase the effect sometimes but in no way does it ruin the whole photo.

"Nothing special..." Are you kidding me, Chris. This is stunningly beautiful. I don't know how you do it, but you could take a picture of the telephone directory and make it something special. What a gift!

I agree with Stubulman, absolutely!

Cheers.

hi, where is this field located?

Thanks for the wallpaper.

The "gradient" some are seeing in the sky appears to be the result of dropping the colour depth in order to meet the size requirement to upload. That's pretty much the only time i've seen this, when dropping from 32 bit to 16 bit.

This is excellent. I too was hoping this would climb its way out of the loupe. A very pleasant desktop with amazing color. And something different from your normal style too.

@ MadMaXX- 32bit to 16 bit? Not sure but I don't believe this one is HDR (32bit).Maybe you meant 16 bit to 8 bit conversion? Although I believe the "gradient" is a result of a polarized filter.

Thanks guys.

I do see the gradient that people have mentioned. I've uploaded another version here, I think it's a bit better but I couldn't get rid of it altogether (and it's a slightly different crop too):

@PoopChef, this was taken from The Grove Reserve in Golden Bay, NZ.

@EastTN, you're right it's not HDR and I did use a Polarizer. There does seem to be some weird gradient going on though. It's not that pronounced in my version so I'm not sure what happened.

@Chris -- Something's happening with the trees on the lower right in the one you linked. Intentional?

I like this picture. The exposure is perfect, the landscape is rendered marvelously.Simplicity is most of the time the key to great pictures, as in this one IMHO.

Thanks Chris. By the way, for someone who knows NOTHING about photography and picture manipulation and all: what was that in the previous one?

@trout, that version had my first attempt at cloning out some power poles. I used that version by mistake when fixing the sky.

Still love this picture Chris, the last version you posted is much better on the sky.

EastTN, i do mean 32 and 16 bit, in colour terms, you're looking at true colour=32 bit and high colour=16 bit.
In the old days, you couldn't tell the difference, but you will get the same effect on any quality sky picture now if you select the high colour option in windows display.

I was able to find the exact location in Google Earth. Just do a search in Google Earth on "Clifton, New Zealand". Notice the house with the dark red roof to the left, and a house with a bright red roof in the center. Once you are in Clifton, New Zealand in Google Earth look for those two houses. The house with the dark red rook is square from a top viewing perspective. Anyone who finds is also, let me know.
