Cotonwood Road

February 9th, 2010

The only road that connects byway 12 to Page, Arizona. It's an impressive dirt road which never ends, or so it seems. And here I had no idea I was a couple minutes from a nice paved highway, but I had to stop and glance at the moon-like landscape behind me.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, with EF24-105L IS USM. Developed in Adobe Lightroom with adjustments in Adobe Photoshop.

37°6'47.79"N, 111°51'2.02"W

Beautiful shot. It looks like an area in west Texas that I drive through a lot. Nice composition too.

I went to grab the single-monitor version at 1680x1050 and it's rather dull. That's because the road is cropped off. Only after reading the remarks posted above did I realize that this was truly meant for multiple monitors! If you can advise the host to maybe re-crop the photo that might be best for those of us without the need for the larger views. I'll download and crop but I thought I'd just see if that was possible... I wonder how many other photo's I've glossed-over due to not loading a multiple-monitor version?!?

With the road - nice composition. Well done!

That is a wonderful shot! I've never been down that road myself though. I went through Albuquerque, NM to Flagstaff when I moved down to AZ. Check out the White Mountain Apache Reservation if you ever get a chance. Spring and Summer in the Rez is absolutely breath-taking!

is it me, or the picture in the thumbnail is not the same as the 1280*1024 version?

both versions are very nice, though =]

I agree with stelorone, I thought too that that it was rather dull as a single. But I looked at the triple version... Whoa!! The first part of the image is way better.. :) So I use that part as my single monitor version :). Thanks for the nice contribution to my wallpaper collection Philippe Clairo!

Thank you everybody for your kind comments.
Yes it is up to the webmaster, I'm assuming, to crop to the different resolution, and I'm sure he used his best judgment to try to please everyone, but if you know enough what you're doing, you can download the very big one, and crop it yourself if you're not happy with his choices. For the 16x10 image, I chose to show that portion of the panorama because I liked the different colors of the earth at that spot, but it's a personal choice!
The full image is made up of 8 shots I believe, but I had almost double that to start with! That view was just breathtaking, and to be there alone was very impressive. I am sure glad I didn't get a flat tire or a dead engine!
As for the Mark II, it is an outstanding camera IF you use L lenses because the full frame sensor will betray your average lens, even if it's an EF, so it's not a very affordable kit.
I hope to make more panoramas here in the future, but it is a challenging task!
Cheers everyone!
