A theme that will spare your eyes as well as the life span of your monitors. Developed by the engineers of our recording studios in order to be able to work longer without the extreme light of the standard Mac OS X Aqua theme.

This is an Update to the AmunRaa Theme. The last Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger compatible one.

Hi I am the Theme Creator...

Sorry to all of those trying to install this theme without knowing that you need the latest version of shape shifter.... I have tried writing it soooo many times but somehow everything seems to get lost here :-((( Anyway - I'll post the link again and see if it works this time:

Great! As a fellow computer musician I noticed I was getting eye fatigue from looking at audio waveforms and menus that were too bright. This looks like it was made to match Ableton Live's "tobacco" theme. Thanks!

great looking theme, i'm running 2.4b4 but for whatever reason, when i install it and then click apply in shapeshifter it does nothing, it just revamps again with the default aqua theme saying it's yours? What the heck is going on with that?

try this: goto - home/library/caches/shapeshifter/mods. then select all the contents of that folder and delete. Now log out and login and reinstall the theme and apply.Then for good meassures log out again:-)

To rest your eyes you can always use combination of key's like crtl + alt + apple + 8
The result is reversed colors. In most cases the result is relaxing and enjoyable. in dark room atleast

The theme does work:-) Try reinstalling shapeshifter... then repair your disk permissions and double click the theme again...it should word... It is not my fault if shape shifter is doing something on your computer that was not intended... It works here and everywhere else from what I have seen...

To the guy that cannot get the image to mount:

Try downloading it again and retry... If the image wont mount see if other images wont mount either... If you have toast - try to mount it with that

It will save lifespan if you are using a CRT. LCD monitors actually die out soonests when useing black, because its the most taxing color to display (it has to block out all the light from the backlights)

Only problem I have with it is with a burried window in Quark XPress that I use quite often(export as PDF window). It blocks out all the menu components and data spaces...the only saving grace is that I know where the interaction points are so I can still use it. This is common in a few themes that I've used in the past. Fix this and it's golden. I love the dark themese and this one works the best thus far. This one rocks, excellent job!

I find this theme to be gorgeous, but it has two flaws, the latter of which is causing me to switch to another theme:
1) the background color is changed in Finder for list view and in column view, but not in icon view: it's still a garish white.
2) The background color is changed for the selection windows in Mail, but the font color for my e-mail headers are not, and reading black text on dark grey is really much too difficult.

1: this is no flaw: One has to set the background color of icon view by opening view when in a window that displays icons: Then set the status to ALL WINWOWS and choose the color u want...U can use the magnifying glass to copy the exact color fromt the list or column view...
2: I have a mail fix : This will be in the update that will be released on Sunday:-))))

Same error as those above: "...the guiKit file is too new to read."
Tried fix via reinstall and perms check/repair (Disk Utility, FSCK, etc.)
Just started troubleshooting so I'll post back any positives.
2.3.1 appears to be the latest public version - is there a newer build that may resolve this error?

FIX for error: "...the guiKit file is too new to read."
As posted previously, the latest ShapeShifter version must be used. This appears to be 2.4.b3. However, all links to download this from the vendor (unsanity.com) are aliased to download 2.3.1.

Use this mirror instead for 2.4.b3:

Install and no more error. Now we'll just have to see why Unsanity is defaulting back to 2.3.1. - maybe unintentional.

I was talking about the mail fix earlier.... I'm actually getting used to the coloring. The only thing that would be nice in mail/iTunes would be the buttons. Still...I appreciate the work each time I log on my puter!

one other colour oddity - the background colour in the finder window when the view is in icon view mode is white, but it's the regular dark chocolate-black color in list and column modes

to quarkdoll. It is not possible for shapeshifter to change the icon view as this is customizable from apple's side. What you've gotta do is go to view when in icon mode and set to "All Windows" then pick the color - you can actually copy the exact color from list view by using the pixel loop in the color view:-)))

Hi Everyone,

the new and improved AmuNRaa 1.0 Theme has just been released. Should a matter of hours before it gets posted here. It includes some fixes for various back grounds of various applications and apple system specific infra structure.... Also a couple of apps have received a few modifications like iTunes 7, Safari, Etc....

Once again, nicely done!!!
Found some bugs though.
-Currently using CandyBar and with this new version, the finder, trash, new folder, and get info icons revert back to default icon. Cannot change to my custom icon.
-In Mail, fonts from emails are not the default black that I prefer. It's the gold color.

Other than that, everything is quite an improvement.

How do I remove the fix for 1password? The other fixes seem to have uninstallers--1password's uninstaller seems broken at least on my end. Great theme, but when I want to change I need to be able to revert to standard Safari

I installed the latest version, but the shapeshifter shows error indicating "Guikit file 35742199 can not be openned" (translated from Japanese message.However the theme itself is seemed to work normally?

I can provide an uninstaller for 1password, and I will, but u can just reinstall 1password to get it back..... And to all those who wanna use the fixes: ONLY APPLY THOSE AFTER U HAVE DECEIDED TO ACTUALLY USE THE THEME... The fixes are thought of as Beauty Extentions ONLY..... Also - make sure to read the read me's.... There you will find usefull info like : System requirements and the need of the latest shape shifter installer

The fixes are great, especially the backgound fix for mail. If you could do this for other apps like iCal it would help a lot. Can't really read some of the columns.

Thank you for this theme! I appreciate all your work and the improvements to my mac.

I would like to tweak small things to customize this theme for my personal use. Whenever I run guiTweak and attempt to save any changes it crashes, with this error in my system log:

Jan 1 14:01:10 bodhi /Users/charles/Library/PreferencePanes/ShapeShifter.prefPane/Contents/Resources/guiTweak.app/Contents/MacOS/guiTweak: GraphicsImportGetColorSyncProfile was called for an image that has a ColorSync profile, but the base graphics importer will perform ColorSync matching, so a generic profile is being returned to avoid incorrect matching. To opt out of automatic ColorSync matching and access actual embedded profiles, set the kGraphicsImporterDontUseColorMatching flag.

Any idea of how to work around this? Besides a couple personal customizations (font color in browser, highlight color, etc) which I'd like to play with, I find this theme perfect for my use and lifestyle.

Dean... My mail is fine, maybe you need to get 1.0?? My Mac mail is gray background with black lettering. Highlighted items are yellowish. Works for me, just waiting for the buttons! Thanks again for the theme... Merry Belated Christmas and best to y'all in the New Year!

One question.

Photoshop pallettes are very hard to read with the oarnge type on white background. Is this an adobe thing, or is there something in the theme i can tweak to make this wor better? Or is this another app that would require a fix like you have supplied for mail etc.

I know what you mean. However, on my mac it looks ok and I can read it even though it's orange on white. That does not mean that I would not like to change it - only, I dont know how to do that. Such problems and limitations are what is making it a hard knock life designing a theme.
Hope that the future will bring more possibilities and less limitations to the themers:-)

u dont necessarily have to apply my icons. just apply the aqua default icons. If that dont help I would contact unsanity or Panic for then it seems to be more of a shapeshifter / CandyBar problem.

If yo have any application (such as Photoshop) that doesn't work well with the theme, tell Shapeshifter to not apply that theme to that app. It's one of the preferences at your disposal. You can also tweak a particular item, such as a font color on a menu color.

This Theme rocks my world! Not only does it go great with GarageBand's color theme it also matches the current page at ResExcellence! Easy n the eyes and each improvement has been well thought out! Apple should adopt this theme.

i've tried to install this a few times now as well as reinstalling shapeshifter but i keep getting format error 17540. Can you please tell me how to rectofy this? I'm using Shapeshifter 2.4 as well as an iBook running OSX 10.4.8.

Love the theme. My only complaint is the font color. Sometimes it's hard to read against a white background. Other than that - great job!

I am not familiar with that error, in fact I 've never heard of it... You should contact unsanity.com that makes ShapeShifter and ask them about it. IT would be great if you could post back here and clarify...

Thanks for the compliment... I am aware of the fact that in some cases the font color is hard to read when occasionally applications are not following shapeshifter translations. Shapeshifter does not offer 100% theming. It is fairly ease to circumvent by designing a bright theme cuz all the colors are there by default... but when doing a theme in color it is more difficult and compromises have to be made... Looking great most of the time or Looking half great all the time.... I choose choice number 1. We'll just have to wait and see what the future brings and hope that many other themers make great and USABLE themes so that many more apple users will start changing their looks of their OS. That way more and more 3rd pty. developers will start complying to the standards that apple are setting and shapeshifter will then be able to offer 100% theming.

Perhaps you could supply me the information on which app's are making it hard for you in conjunction with the AmunRaa theme and I'd be apple to offer Fixes for those as well....

Really Cool ShapeShifter Ap. But only prob im facing is my garbage bin and my finder icons are changing when the application is in effect, I usually change the icons of garbage bin and finder. but when i applied the cool design their icons goes bacl to apple default. Any way I could keep my customized icons?

I've been using your theme for quite a while now, but for some fresh 'old' air, have reverted back to the default aqua theme.

However, the problem with reverting is that my Mail still has the grey background and black font. I've tried deleting all the contents of my library/caches/shapeshifter/mods folder, but still no change. I've used shapeshifter and reverted back to the default theme, logged out and logged back in but still no change.

Am I missing out on something? Would appreciate the help.

i wish there was a way to change the green highlight color when you go to the top of the screen pull down menus. i just don't like the green for some reason. other than that it's excellent! oh yeah and those of you who want shapeshifter for free go to demonoid.com!

Hi Guys,

there will be different variations in future updates of this theme.... To the Logic guy; drop me an email and I'll send you a file that will make the text OK in Logic. I know that Logic is a problem - it's becuz' it's using PRO APP KIT for graphics and I cant change those... Anyway - there are solutions to everything, so drop me a line...

to jerrycarlen:-))) Unsanity are working hard on releases of shape shifter thus enabling us to apply a theme in the first place; if everyone would call on demonoid.com to get it for free it wouldnt take long till we'd have NO shape shifter at all:-)))

This is a great theme, but some things are missing to make it even better, so please take into account for a next update the following: the blue process bar, that appears every time a copy is preform or a certain process is being done by a third app, that blue bar that tells you where the process is from left to right, it should be like the light green that you applied to the process bar in Safari. That should make the theme even cooler.

Also in Mail try to make more contrast where the read messages are (inbox, sent, etc.), when they are read they go black and the background in black also, making it very hard to read. Use another color and everything should be fine.

When you open a window an select a file or something the color should not be blue, it should be the same green efect that you use in the menus like File and Edit, ans such.

I can't wait for an update, again this theme is really cool and it can get really great!

Hi All,

to the finder and dock icons.... This is NOT an issue I can do anything about... I wish I could. It is the shapeshifter that has that bug... I can only suggest again that you write Unsanity about this issue. Sorry for not being able to help on this one...

So here's the 1.2 Update... We'll be providing alternatives within the theme soon - if anyone would prefer the "Old" menu look - then please mail and we'll add that to the alternatives....

Yes, alternatives would be great like "old" menu look or "highlight" bar from previous theme.
Did find another bug, though i'm sure it's Unsanity issue. "New Folder" icon cannot be changed.
One question. I would like to change the color the email message font. Which tweak is that?

FINALLY - a theme which breaks the hierarchal arrow! thankyouthankyouthankyou. I think is shows a progressive thought process to make the theme its own complete identity.
I guess I would love to see a spotlight icon that matches the theme - even just the muted window widget would be a nice continuity touch BUT that is just me.
Nice work. Kudos to your evolution.

I'm trying to change the the highlight color from blue to graphite but I'm an idiot and can't find the appearance pref. panel. I've looked in the GUI tweak panel but can't find anything that will reference it. help is appreciated

I like this theme, but the light yellow text makes using Firefox or other Moz programs pretty much useless as the buttons are unreadable.

Thanks for making this theme!!! I've had it for about a week now and it's great. It's a big help to us optically problematic.
I have one issue though, whenever I open Entourage, the menu bar looks weird. The items are unreadable and often, when I click on them, I go back to the Finder menu bar.
I hope there's a way to fix this.

Hi,

such a useful and well done theme, congratulations. However, I have spent the last 2 hours trying to tweak the font in the "Message" frame Mail, so that it looks similar to what the Finder font looks on the Finder background. At the moment the messages that are not highlighted are nearly invisible because it is a black font on a dark background :( My neck is aching because I've been hanging 40 cm away from the screen and I couldn't find it. Any suggestions?

i've been using this theme for a while but i noticed something. i downloaded safari 3 and whenever i try to switch themes in shapeshifter safari remains as the amunraa theme. it's black/charcoal outlined and buttons are hard to read. i even have safari in the exclude list but it doesn't work. can you fix this? or provide a solution please? thanks

Hi There,

this seem to be a problem belonging to ShapeShifter.... If you have added Safari to the Exclude list and it Still gets updated then Shape Shifter is to blame..

Anyway - Try this:

Navigate to:

home/library/caches/shapeshifter

and delete the folder mods.

Now Logout and login and empty your trash...

This will have reset everything... to Apple default


Go and Apply the AmunRaa again to see if Safari is still messing with you:-)))

First of all, love this theme! I was wondering if anything could be done about the bookmark bar in Camino, it seems to stick to the default color (light gray) and that with the text color makes it hard to read and ugly. Here's what I'm talking about:

The plain white 'editable text background' is jarring compared to muted not-too-bright rest of the theme.

Would be better if this was a shade of grey.

Cant tweak using GUITWEAK using Shape Shifter 2.5 (505) - Gui Tweak says the resource file is too large and that I should ask the theme developer to reduce the Aqua elements. - or some words to this effect.

To Camino.... I'll have a look at that... But it's probably an incompatibility just like FireFox Has it.

To the Search Editable text background... YES - IT's a Hazzle... I hate it but one CAN NEVER really change the white background. OS X puts a stop to that. Some applications actually allow it but only until you try to enter a text. Then it turns white again... One of Hundreds of Apple Flaws. I could write a book about those. So Sorry for that - I myself have the search field hidden or put to the right making it accessible via the chevron arrows only... That way - it doesn't light up the display like a christmas tree...

Hi -

Unfortunately we are not using Tiger anymore. Therefore, this was the last build for Tiger.
This version is not compatible with Safari 3.0 and above like it is not tested with current Versions of iTunes.

I really love this theme, but it won't let me run Firefox when it's applied. Everytime I try to launch Firefox under this theme it tells me that it has crashed, but once I switch the theme back to default, Firefox works fine. I applied Firefox to the "Exclude List" but I'd really prefer not to...is there any way this can be fixed otherwise so I can run Firefox with your beautiful theme?

Regarding StainedSugars question about Firefox above, Firefox 2 does not get it's appearance from OSX. Instead, it was designed at the application level to "mimic" OSX's Aqua interface. The end result of which is that no skinning application will affect it.

I do not know if this will be the case with the upcoming Firefox 3 for OSX, however.

THE STEVE doesn't want any theme to work on any OS X. You can call that Apple's GUI-fascism. If you want to change your GUI with themes, switch to Windows or Linux. Sad, but true.

I would SO love to use this theme. I am running 10.5.6 - yet shapeshifter is not yet updated to use it. Snow Leopard is almost out, and I am losing hope. I would like to test the application, and have time to do so as well.

Anyone know how to get the theme to work without shape shifter? Is there even an alternative? Can this be 'taken apart' and installed manually?

I absolutely love it, but it won't work on Safari 4 or iTunes 8, I can't even use iTunes anymore with it running because it blanks out the window. Is there any way to get around this? I can't seem to find any other similar skins that are up to date. :'(

It looks amazing! If only I could apply it... You see, Apple came out with Snow Leopard for mac and that's what I am running. It is 10.6.1 and when I try and run ShapeShifter, the application crashes on me. Any way to stop this would be FANTASIC!
